A troubled Irish farmer visits his local pub, where he encounters an old man, a fortune teller of sorts. The old man has two sets of identical Irish “tarot cards,” and he uses them to determine if he and the farmer have any sort of connection. They do, at least superficially. After he reads the aura surrounding the farmer and selects a secret card from one of the packets, he invites fate to take over the proceedings. A procedure that involves selecting cards, putting them in envelopes, and casting Irish pennies on the table in an elimination process is the result. Finally, there remains only one envelope with a single card inside. When that card is dumped from the envelope and the previously-selected secret card is revealed, the cards match…both Shamrocks! Clearly there is a deeper connection between the old man and the farmer…or is the real connection between the farmer and his future? The old man informs the farmer that he must look for signs to fully understand what this encounter means. The old man gets up and leaves, and the farmer wonders what signs he should look for. Suddenly, he notices on the table, in front of him, a box. He has no idea from whence it came, but he nevertheless opens it to find a beautiful glass shamrock, a sign for sure. But what does it mean? Closer examination of the inside of the box reveals an old Irish blessing, the sign that will guide him for the rest of his life.
